Washington Family received six awards at the culmination of the Parenting Media Association (PMA) 2024 Design and Editorial Awards Program last month.
The national trade association of regional parenting companies recognizes excellence in editorial, design and digital each year, with members across the United States, Canada and Australia. Awards were presented at the PMA’s annual conference in Chicago Oct. 17-18.
The magazine earned recognition that spanned design, editorial and digital, with a silver and bronze for editorial, three bronze awards for design and a bronze award for its “Digital Magazine” e-newsletter.
Writer Sasha Rogelberg won silver for a story explaining the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act for readers in a clear, conversational way, according to judges.
Staff Writer Heather M. Ross won bronze for a unique article about parents who experienced the loss of a child and had the opportunity to participate in organ donation.
Judges note, “This article shares personal, moving stories about families who have been impacted by organ donation, and it offers insightful advice on how to broach the topic with children. The article concludes that ‘organ donation can connect the world,’ but it starts with parents connecting deeper with their children at home by having those conversations.”
Design awards included two bronze awards for lead designer Carl Weigel for the Bookmarked and Top 5 departments and a bronze for the Table of Contents.
And the publication’s e-newsletter was praised for its simplicity and good selection of options, “gently reminding readers there’s more to find if they want it.”
We appreciate you, readers, for finding more to explore with each issue. Thanks for letting us tell your stories in many different ways. We look forward to what 2025 has in store.
