St. Patrick’s Day Fun

St. Patrick’s Day is on March 17, and there are many opportunities to celebrate around the DMV, including at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade of Washington, D.C. and the Greater Manassas St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Manassas, Virginia.

Jellystone Jam

A new Jellystone Park campground will open in Williamsburg, Virginia March 2, with additional facilities opening April 3. The family-oriented campgrounds and resort, on the site of the former Williamsburg Campground, use characters from Yogi Bear and Friends.

After 10 days of public voting and $58,892.70 raised for conservation, the Asian elephant calf at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute is named Linh Mai [LIN-my], which means spirit blossom in Vietnamese. New Baby Elephant 

A new Asian elephant, Linh Mai, was born at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo on Feb. 2. She’s the first Asian elephant to be born at the zoo in nearly 25 years, a momentous occasion for the endangered species.

The End of D.C.’s Streetcars

The DC Streetcar service will be closing its doors March 31, with DDOT advising passengers to seek other means of transportation. The service opened in 2016 but has seen fewer passengers than expected.

Bridge Reopening

The Spring Street Bridge in Silver Spring will reopen in April after years of Purple Line -related construction, making it easier for residents to travel around the city’s downtown area.
