Hispanic Heritage Month has a unique timeframe — running from mid-September to mid-October. Celebrate locally in the Washington, D.C. area in October with National Landing’s NaLa Noches series and Prince George’s County’s parks and recreation department.
NaLa Noches features live Latin music and hands-on art activities from the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington like tissue-paper marigolds (Oct. 2), crafts (Oct. 9), clay figurines (Oct. 16) and watercolors (Oct. 23), from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Arlington’s Metropolitan Park. Families can enjoy local food at the Virginia park including Taqueria Xochi, Peruvian Brothers and free Topo Chico (while supplies last). RSVP to this free event series via National Landing Business Improvement District’s Eventbrite page.

This event celebrates the Hispanic population in PG County, now representing 21.2% of the county’s population, according to a news release citing a recent report from the county’s
planning department.
“Over the past two decades, this population has increased by 260.1%, a pace far outpacing the county’s overall growth,” the parks department states in a news release.
Local Hispanic families can celebrate their heritage — 65.3% from Central America, with Salvadorans making 44% of the total Hispanic population in the county — and neighbors and friends can learn about and share in their culture.
