Celebrate the highly anticipated return of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” to the big screen with a special family event making a splash at Westfield Wheaton Mall this Memorial Day weekend.
The mall’s indoor shopping center will welcome three mermaids to enchant and amaze families visiting Macy’s Lower Court on May 27 from noon to 4 p.m. The court will feature light-up jellyfish, dangling seaweed and a clamshell throne!
Festivities on Saturday include live music, mer-makeovers with face painters, photo prints from a professional photographer and exclusive promotions from the mall’s retailers. A dance competition will take place the following day, on Sunday, May 28.
To get the full mermaid experience, you can grab tickets for the new film, released on Friday, at AMC Wheaton Mall 9. The live-action rendition of the Disney classic stars actress and singer Halle Bailey in the feature role of Ariel.
The film is an adaptation of the original animated film from 1989, which in turn was a loosely based adaptation of the 1837 tale by Hans Christian Anderson.
Westfield Wheaton’s mermaid experience has been a long time coming—anxiously awaited by community members and mall staff alike.
“We can’t wait to see the smiles on everyone’s faces as they meet real mermaids and lay their eyes on the elaborate decorations and experiences we’ve been planning for months,” says the mall’s director of marketing, Michael Lado, in a news release. “It feels great to welcome back “The Little Mermaid” to the big screen.”
