Finish the summer with music, company, treats and charity. The Summer Sounds Concert Series at Chevy Chase Lake’s final installment will take place on Sept. 14 with local band The Breakaways performing classic rock covers.

Like the two previous concerts with Amy K & Lee Pilzer and Emma G, this one will be held at 6 p.m. in Chevy Chase Lake Town Square, in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

The free, all-ages show includes giveaways, and for each concert in the series, Chevy Chase Lake donates to local charity Hope for Henry.

Hope for Henry is a Washington, D.C.- based nonprofit working to reinvent how hospitals all over the country care for children and their families. Its mission is to apply scientifically tested programs to help hospitalized children confront the challenges that come with illness and stick to their medical plans to thrive. Break a Leg, Kids!

The theater stage is a place where kids can learn to be themselves—by being someone else. Families have lots of options for family-friendly theater experiences all over the DMV.

Adventure Theatre MTC, in Glen Echo, Maryland, recently announced its 2023-2024 season. “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” is set to take the stage from Sept. 22 to Oct. 29, followed by a two-actor version of “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe,” starting in November.

In addition to a season with old favorites, the theater will be featuring artists that live and work in the DMV, according to newly appointed artistic director, Kurt Boehm.

Other classics this season will include “Junie B. Jones, The Musical,” “Sing Down the Moon: Appalachian Wonder Tales” and “Knuffle Bunny: a Cautionary Musical.” Find a full list of upcoming productions at adventuretheatre-mtc.org.

For junior theater enthusiasts, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” will be on the Imagination Stage from Sept. 22 to Oct. 22 in Bethesda, Maryland. This year’s Imagination Stage calendar also features “A Year with Frog & Toad” and “Cinderella: A Salsa Fairy Tale.” Book tickets at imaginationstage.org.

For the teens and parents, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” opens at the Germantown Community Theatre on Sept. 15 and runs through Oct. 1. Follow six tweens in their spelling battle. Come One, Come All, The Kitchen Collective Launches a Virtual Food Hall

Fast, casual and family-friendly is the way to go for families looking to satisfy diverse preferences. Can’t decide between pizza or falafel? Why not grab both?

The Kitchen Collective launched a virtual food hall, a curated selection of D.C.-based and national restaurants, this summer in Fairfax Square, in Vienna, Virginia.

Food halls offer a communal, cafeteria-like setting where families can shop and enjoy wildly different varieties of cuisines. Typically, food halls have a little something for everyone—like a more permanent food truck festival. The Kitchen Collective is open for takeout or delivery from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.

One of the featured restaurants, Yasmine, is a Lebanese kebab shop offering grilled meats, fresh cheese and house-made bread.

Another restaurant, Pizza Serata, offers Sicilian-inspired cuisine like house-made stracciatella and focaccia bread with locally sourced dough from Virginia’s Wades Mills.
