Don’t Drop the Ball on These New Year’s Eve Festivities in the DMV

Watching the Times Square Ball Drop on TV is a tradition for many families and a fun way to ring in the new year. But you don’t have to travel all the way to New York City to see the ball drop, either. There are plenty of unique ball drops and parties taking place in the DMV this year, from kid-friendly “Noon Year’s Eve” events to date nights for parents.

All of these events begin Wednesday, Dec. 31.

10 a.m.-1 p.m., “Noon Year’s Eve” event at The Yards perfect for kids too young to stay up late

The Rocknoceros New Year’s Eve Ball at Jammin Java / Vienna, VA

11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Featuring children’s band Rocknoceros, an apple juice toast and ball drop

Kids’ New Year’s Eve Party at Shipgarten / McLean, VA

Noon-6 p.m., Includes magic show and meeting Spider-Man and Anna and Elsa from “Frozen”

First Night Alexandria / Alexandria, VA

2025 times TBA, This annual all-day event invites all of Alexandria to celebrate the new year.

New Year’s Eve with The Seldom Scene & Shelby Means / Alexandria, VA

7:30 p.m., A cozy bluegrass concert by a Bethesda-based band at the Birchmere

DC Improv New Year’s Eve Showcase / Washington, D.C.

7:30 p.m. and 11:15 p.m., Ring in the new year with a night of comedy at DC Improv!

Ultimate 80’s NYE Dance Party with DJ D / Vienna, VA

8 p.m., Travel back in time to the ‘80s at Union Stage before stepping into the new year!

NYE Speakeasy Party at The Hamilton / Washington, D.C.
