What little boy does not love animals, ninjas and weapons? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is the perfect combination of all three. My two boys, ages 8 and 3, both loved the four action figures (Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael and Donatello) and the Shellraiser assault vehicle. They could hardly wait to open them when I brought them home.
My 8 year old said the toys looked “really awesome, so the afterschool routine went out the window and he went straight to opening the figures. I allowed him to open all the packaging with scissors on his own so the packaging was not too difficult. The packaging for each of the figures also comes with a small cut out that tells you about the figures personalities and weapons of choice. He cut each one out to keep them.
Each figure, measuring about 4.25-4.75 inches tall, came with its core ninja weapons and a bonus weapons accessory pack. My son really enjoyed the weapons. I on the other hand not so much because they ended up all over the place and are easily lost.
With a younger brother running around the house and child who is easily upset when toy pieces get lost, it can be difficult.
But this did not detract from the enjoyment they both have gotten from playing with the toys. The toys are recommended for children 4 and older. However, if you remove the weapons and small bandana attachments, I thought they were perfect for my 3 year old as well. They are solid figures with large feet so they easily stand up for clumsy little hands, unlike many of other cartoon character figures. They are also pretty sturdy; even with 12 movable joints my 3 year old did not break them.
My boys brought the figures with them wherever we went for the next four days. I would not allow them to bring the vehicle because it is larger and not as easily portable.
Shellraiser Assault Vehicle
My 8 year old attempted to assemble the Shellraiser himself, however that proved difficult. My husband assisted him with the assembly following the simple instructions. The total time opening the packaging for the figures and vehicle and assembly was approximately an hour to an hour and a half. Once assembled both of my boys loved putting the figures in and on the vehicle.
My 3 year old, who is obsessed with trucks, found it amazing just because it was a truck. My 8 year old enjoyed the spring loaded cannon on the top and the side door that opened with the touch of a button. When the side door opened a poll would shoot out and the figure hanging on the bar would spring 360 degree around it. The vehicle will hold up to eight core action figures and with so many openings and fun features, the boys played with it for hours.
