Choo-Choo Soul: Disney Favorites
I was interested in the “Choo-Choo Soul: Disney Favorites” collection, sung with an “urban” twist, for two reasons: 1) my two-year-old is just developing an obsession with Disney shows and movies and 2) we like to sing in the car to keep her occupied, so new music is always welcome. Little did I know that I would get as much enjoyment out of this CD as my daughter would!
The CD features 12 well-known Disney tunes and kicks off with “Hakuna Matata.” My poor daughter was instantly subjected to me singing through my bronchitis-crackly voice. I just couldn’t resist. I have two younger sisters and saw “The Lion King” in theaters; this brought back great memories and I swear I still know all the words.
Parents of all ages, with any exposure to Disney movies, will enjoy sharing the songs with their child(ren) as the collection extends back to “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” and other older classics.
The only drawback to the music is that it is very up tempo and not the original characters or actors singing (it features the Choo-Choo Soul television show stars, Genevieve Goings and Constantine “DC” Abramson). I found myself missing Mary Poppins (aka Julie Andrews) and her sweet and funny voice telling us to say, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
Frankly, I’m not sure how many times I could listen to this CD in the car with the really fast beat. However, this is the perfect dance party music and I can envision having many with my daughter in our living room in the years to come.
This is a great, well-rounded collection of tunes to introduce my daughter to the world of Disney music, in a fun, new way. We enjoyed and reviewed the collection on CD; I see that they also have an mp3 download which would be great for digital listening.
