Baby Peekaboo and Baby Night-Night By Amy Pixton

Both of these books are from the “Indestructibles” series. The publisher claims the books are chew proof, rip proof, nontoxic and washable. Kate Merritt’s bright and colorful illustrations are attention grabbing.

Baby Peekaboo is what you would likely expect. It’s a game of peekaboo with a family member or pet. Each is hiding behind something on the first page, then on the next page you see them. When I read it aloud to my 15 month-old, he’d laugh every time I said, “peekaboo!” He really liked it and we read it a few times in row. The book is only 10 pages with a few words on each page.

Baby Night-Night follows babies through a typical bedtime routine. The baby takes a bath, brushes its teeth, puts on pajamas, reads a story, and gets kisses goodnight. It’s also 10 pages, but with words on just one side. My 15 month-old really liked this book too because the babies are so cute! Each baby doing a portion of the bedtime routine looks different.

I was skeptical as to the durability of the books because they appear to be like a paperback book instead of the typical board book for babies. I gave one of the books to my 15 month-old son. I saw him chew on it, try to tear it, crunch up one of the pages, then carry it around. The result was a slight wrinkle on one of the pages, but that’s it! No tears or rips. I also wiped it down with a cloth and the pages held up just fine. The books are very lightweight and thin. They can easily be slipped in a diaper bag or purse. My 4 year-old daughter even wanted to read them. She also liked the books and thought the babies in the books were cute. I highly recommend giving one of the “Indestructibles” a try. There are 16 books in the series.
