We love this doll! My daughter is now at the age (2 yrs.) where she likes to play with baby dolls. Being mommy, feeding and taking care of her “babies” has become a frequent playtime activity at our house. Lately, she has been playing with my doll (which is probably 30 years old), so I have been thinking about getting her a doll of her own. I was really excited to learn that American Girl recently came out with a baby doll line, the Bitty Baby. What I most love about this doll is it is very high quality, and I know it will be around for my daughter to play with for a long time and, hopefully, someday her children will be able to play with it.
Bitty Baby dolls are 15” tall with a huggable cloth body, and head and limbs made of smooth (cleanable) vinyl. The line comes in seven different skin tones and various hair and eye–color combinations making them very customizable. Each baby arrives with a soft white sleeper with scattered pink stars and a cloth diaper. Another great thing about this doll is that in keeping with the American Girl tradition, it comes with a hardcover Bitty Baby and Me picture book, which has been a big hit with my daughter, as well.
After browsing our American Girl catalog, I realized that each set of Bitty Baby clothes includes a corresponding story or activity book. There are also a number of accessories for the baby, including mealtime activities, diaper changing and bathing.
This doll is recommended for children ages 3+, however, my daughter is 2 and mature enough to play with and enjoy the baby. All in all, this is a great doll. It is a good size and at 15” it can easily fit into average doll clothes or with other generic doll accessories. The soft body is much better than a doll with a harder torso. It makes it easier for little ones to cuddle and carry around.
The only negative to this doll is the price. At $80, this is a bit on the expensive side; however, I think it is worth it for such a quality product. You can tell that this doll is very well–made and will not be falling apart any time soon. My daughter has really enjoyed this doll, and I would definitely recommend it to our friends.
