Looking to make some positive changes in your life this year? Instead coming up with a list of New Year’s resolutions that will likely fail, why not pick some mantras to live by instead?
If you’ve ever resolved to stop yelling at your kids or to finally lose the baby weight, you probably know how easy it is for resolutions to fail. According to U.S. News & World Report, 80 percent of New Year’s resolutions fail by February. That’s because we set unreasonable expectations for ourselves or goals that are hard to measure.
A mantra or positive affirmation, on the other hand, is more of a gentle reminder than a directive. “Generally speaking, affirmations are used to reprogram the subconscious mind, to encourage us to believe certain things about ourselves or about the world and our place within it,” writes Kathryn Lively on Psychology Today.
Using positive affirmations are easy. Every day, say them out loud or write them in a journal. You can also jot them on pieces of paper that you strategically place around your house or office for maximum visibility.
To help you get started, we found 10 mantras to live by on Instagram. Pick one that resonates with your or try writing your own!

Grow through what you go through
Your life doesn’t have to be perfect to inspire people. The world needs to see you be human, not perfect.
