Potted Potter

Whether you know a little or a lot about the Harry Potter franchise, you and your family will have a raucous good time at Potted Potter. I took my 16-year old daughter and her friend, both Potter aficionados and theatre kids. They LOVED the show and raved about it afterwards. Looking around the theatre though, I can imagine that was the general reaction from everyone in the audience.

Potted Potter is a whirlwind 70-minute, two-man comedy show with no intermission. The pace is fast and furious and really fun. They promise to cover all seven Potter books in those 70 minutes, but don’t expect to get any Cliff Notes from this show. It’s all sillyness and goofy banter, mixed in with audience participation, character breaks from the actors, and ad libs to boot. These guys are naturally funny and play to the home audience, so the jabs and references to the D.C. audience got big reactions.

I don’t want to give away any of the antics, but expect a game of quidditch, water guns and a disco ball. Yes, lots of family fun for kids of any age!

We went to a 5 p.m. show, and had plenty of time to walk around afterwards and grab dinner. The Shakespeare Theatre is near the Verizon Center, so there are parking garages and lots of restaurants close by.

The show is currently running through June 21 and tickets are still available. Go to http://tickets.shakespearetheatre.org/single/PSDetail.aspx?psn=14421 for more information on shows and pricing. It would make a great Father’s Day outing!
