Mini Holiday Staycation: LEGO at The Darcy Hotel

The Darcy, a boutique hotel near Washington, D.C.’s Dupont Circle, has a special exhibit for families this holiday season.

Now through Jan. 28, visitors can explore the “Unapologetically DC” LEGO art installation, on display in the hotel’s lobby. Each display has a theme representing winter or holiday scenes, or uniquely D.C. attractions, such as D.C.’s Chinatown.

After touring, you can vote for your favorite creative masterpiece. The winner of the competition will be revealed on Jan. 28, National Lego Day.

This day commemorates when Godtfred Kirk Christiansen submitted the patent for the original LEGO bricks back in 1958. Today, LEGO products span nearly every genre and are a holiday gift hit in many homes, helping kids exercise their spatial reasoning skills and creativity.

The exhibit is open to the public, but families looking for a weekend staycation have the option to stay at the hotel for festive perks. The Darcy’s “LEGO Elf Package” family deal is available through Dec. 30. (Guests must book by Dec. 28).

It includes an elf on the shelf book and LEGO set—which can be found in the room upon arrival, and warm milk with cookies. The offer also includes a 25% discount on food and beverages at Gerrard Street Kitchen.

The Darcy is a 15-minute walk from the White House and is conveniently located between Dupont Circle and Logan Circle—great for families looking to see the sights without worrying about catching a ride or navigating D.C.’s traffic.

Nearby monuments include the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and the Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) Memorial.

More LEGO Fun

If your family isn’t quite ready for a trek into the heart of the city, the LEGO Discovery Center in Springfield, Virginia, offers rides, a character meet and greet and a chance to build. The center is hosting its “Holiday Bricktacular” from Dec. 8-31.

This holiday event gives kids the chance to build a LEGO ornament, find the hidden LEGO elf, grab a photo and participate in a holiday-themed workshop with a Master Model Builder.
