Friday, December 6

Light Yards: Featuring an interactive light installation on the waterfront curated by international award-winning artists, this annual nighttime holiday festival returns for the fifth year at The Yards Park. Washington, DC; FREE; Through December 23; 6 – 10 p.m.

“CSI: Christmas Scene Investigators”: Christmas is soon approaching, but Santa Claus is missing. Follow along as an ambitious group of students known as the Clue Club embark on an investigative journey to find Santa before the big day in this Encore Stage & Studio production. Arlington, VA; Tickets: $12-$15; 7:30 p.m. 

Saturday, December 7

Holidays on the Farm: Kick-off the holiday season with a day full of hands-on activities at The Children’s Museum of Rose Hill Manor Park plus a miniature train display, marshmallow toasting and a holiday-themed performance by Ray Owens. Santa will be making a special appearance as well, so don’t forget your camera! Frederick, MD; Tickets: $5; 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Annual Holiday Card Workshop: After designing one-of-a-kind holiday greetings using an assortment of art supplies, kids can have their envelopes postmarked at the National Postal Museum. Washington, D.C.; FREE, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Holiday Boat Parade: Dozens of boats decked out in twinkling lights will cruise down the Potomac River during the 20th annual Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights. Before the sun sets, enjoy family-friendly activities at Waterfront Park such as a Letters to Santa postcard station and a bookmark-making station plus food, music, and giveaways. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive by fireboat at 3:30 p.m. for photos at the Torpedo Factory Arts Center. Alexandria, VA; FREE, Dockside festivities: 2 – 8 p.m.; Parade: 5:30 p.m. 

Sunday, December 8

Holiday Teen Tea: Kids ages 11 and older with an accompanying adult can enjoy a traditional afternoon tea in the 1867 Dower House. After tea and treats, including sandwiches, scones and desserts, guests are invited to join a guided tour of the festive decor at Tudor Place Historic House and Garden. Washington, DC; Tickets: $30-$35; 12 p.m.

Foxcroft School Christmas PageantExperience a holiday tradition over 100 years old that includes live animals, colorful costumes and non-stop singing. Santa will make an appearance after the show. Middleburg, VA; FREE; 2 p.m.
