Almighty Beef Jerky Tastes Heavenly
Upon opening the resealable bag of Smokestacks Almighty Beef Jerky for the first time, the aroma hits you like a wave crashing on the beach. There is nothing else noticable but the smell of smoked-meat goodness. That smell, combined with the oversized (and thick!) strips of Smokestacks told me I was in for a treat. This isn’t the jerky you’ll find gracing the shelves next to the cash register at your local convenience store: this is the real deal!
After pulling out what would be the first of many samples, the first thing I noticed was the thickness of the strip. It was about 1/4″ thick at some points — easily twice as thick as any jerky I’ve ever seen! It was also dry, leaving my fingers without any of the residual greasiness that I’ve experienced with other national brands.
I bit off a chunk and started chewing. It was a slow build-up, starting off very mellow and growing stronger as I continued to chew. There was a bit of spiciness, as well as a bit of saltiness, but neither was overpowering. After I had finished the first piece, my mouth was full of a smoked flavoring I can only describe as a tingling feeling on my tastebuds. The heat wasn’t too much, but it wasn’t too little either.
The package indicated that what I was tasting was the “Olde Original Flavor” that is “hot and spicy, fresh and delicious.” There is no false advertising on this package, that’s for sure.
