Jack and the Beanstalk

Recommended for ages 5-12. Show length time is 45 minutes. A timely version of the classic children’s tale about the young lad that doesn’t know beans about trading, but still manages to climb his way to the top. Jack finds that happiness lies in helping others rather than mere personal gain. Told with rod puppets and some surprising twists, Jack has long been a favorite of Glen Echo’s audiences. 11 a.m., $12, The Puppet Co. Playhouse, Glen Echo, MD.


Giraffe Encounter

Giraffe feed cup is included with zoo admission cost. Ever been nose to nose with a giraffe? Well now is your chance. Come feed the zoo’s beloved giraffe “Waffles,” and learn more about the conservation status of these amazing creatures. 2:30 p.m., $5, Roer’s Zoofari, Vienna, VA.


Around the World Embassy Open House

More than 50 embassies will open their doors to DC visitors and residents. Participants can travel around the world as they experience the food, art, dance, fashion and music of different countries and meet lots of interesting people! 9 a.m., FREE, Dupont Circle Station, D.C.

2019 Rockville Arts Festival

The Rockville Arts Festival is an art lover’s dream! Come visit and shop at their free, two-day outdoor festival featuring more than 100 fine art vendors at the outdoor gallery in Rockville Town Square. The streets will be closed to traffic and turned into a pedestrian-only area for art and fun! 11 a.m., 200 E. Middle Ln., Rockville, MD.

Running of the Chihuahuas

Don’t miss the 8th Annual Running of the Chihuahuas, D.C.’s funniest Cinco de Mayo celebration! The day includes a beer garden, DJ and the highlight of the afternoon, 128 Chihuahuas racing for fame and fun! 1 p.m., The Wharf, D.C., FREE.

Spring Festival

Visit the beautiful 72-acre park for entertainment, animals, a native plant sale, canoe/kayak rentals, craft making for kids, fishing activities and more than 30 booths and activities from local environmental and community groups. 1 p.m., FREE, Walker Nature Center, Reston, VA.


Community Day

The 1st Sunday of the month is Community Day at National Museum of Women in the Arts in D.C. Enjoy free admission to the museum all day. Take this opportunity to explore their current exhibitions, permanent collection and events. Noon, FREE, National Museum of Women in the Arts, D.C.

Junie B. Jones

Come out an enjoy this theatre production designed for the young at heart. Junie B.’s made it to first grade and is having all sorts of adventures meeting new friends, becoming the boss of lunch,and creating a halftime show for the kickball game. $20, Noon, Olney Theatre Center, Olney, MD.
