Weekend FAMILY Fun (April 10-12)

Weekend FAMILY Fun: Chalk Your Walk and more things do at home during social distancing

This weekend should’ve be filled with family gatherings and festive meals, religious celebrations and Easter egg hunts. We’re feeling the sting of being separated from our friends and loved ones, too. Hopefully these at-home activities will make you smile, even for a few minutes. Stay safe and be well, readers!

Chalk Your Walk

We love all of the colorful chalk designs popping up on sidewalks and driveways in neighborhoods across the DMV. From stained glass-like mosaics to inspirational messages, these chalk drawings have been lifting our spirits in ways we didn’t realize chalk drawings could.

This weekend, snap a photo of your child’s chalk artwork and share it with us online using the hashtag #WashingtonFAMILYmag. You can also email your photos to [email protected]. We’ll post them on our social media channels to brighten our feeds so we can all feel a little more cheerful.

Celebrate Passover with the Stars

More than 40 Broadway performers, including Idina Menzel, Ben Platt, Josh Groban and Billy Porter, are joining musicians and religious scholars to tell the Passover story through song and comedy. Saturday Night Seder, a free event to raise money for the CDC Foundation, can be streamed at www.SaturdayNightSeder.com on Saturday, April 11, at 8 p.m.

Challenge Your Kids to a Make-Your-Own Pizza Contest

Paisano’s wants to see what you can create using its new $10 make-at-home pizza kits, available for curbside pick-up or no-contact delivery across at Paisano’s locations across the DMV. Simply post a photo of your mouthwatering masterpieces online using the hashtag #PaisanosMadeByMe through April 23, and you’ll be entered to win a variety of prizes, including pizza for life! Click here for all of the contest details.

Sing Your Heart Out

No karoke machine? No problem! Stingray Karaoke, available as a mobile and TV app, is offering free access to its extensive catalog of old and new party favorites through April 18. There are even fun options for kids, including “Let it Go” for your little “Frozen” fanatics.

Bake Some Cookies

To make staying at home a little sweeter, DoubleTree by Hilton has released the official recipe for its famous chocolate chip cookies—you know, the ones you receive at check-in that are still warm from the oven. Copycat recipes for these famous cookies have been circulating the internet for years, but this is the first time the brand is sharing the real one with the public.
