Wangle Game Review

Wangle Your Way to Some Fun

I would recommend buying the game Wangle for your family. Set up is quick and the game is fairly easy to learn.  There is no mess and no small pieces which makes clean up a breeze.  The storage box has organized compartments and seems sturdy, durable and portable.  It is an effortless and enjoyable game.

We were able to play with mixed age ranges from 6 to 60.  The target age range for this game is 10.  At this age, children would need no assistance with setting up, reading through the instructions, or playing this game on their own.  If playing with younger players, assistance may be needed as they may have difficulty keeping their cards organized to a 5 card hand.

There was a bit of a learning curve to the game.  We found certain instructions lacked detail and we had to “practice play” three times to work through it.  Most of the confusion was in regards to what exactly was required in a hand when trying to win the game.  We also found the bonus character cards a bit confusing and experienced confusion when players were trying to win with a suit.  Twice, players tried to win with multiple matching cards within a theme.   More specific instructions would help clarify the game, but the quick reference guide was very handy in giving visuals as to how to win the game.

Our only complaint would be that over time, the 10 year old crowd (and adults playing with them) could find that the game lacks challenge and could become boring.  A way to improve that would be to add “levels” of play that could keep the game feeling fresh and exciting.

Adult players may find the speed and impulsivity of the game frustrating and might be inclined to want more time to “think through” their decisions.  However, that impulsivity is what the target age range loved the most.  When we finished, the 8-10 year old players immediately yelled, “Let’s play again!”  With that reaction you can tell the game was a success!
