Trick-Or-Treating at Mount Vernon

What better way to celebrate the fun of Halloween than on the lawn of our first president? This is a really unique event held at George Washington’s Mount Vernon near Halloween. This year it was held on Friday October 30th from 3:30-6:30 pm. Tickets were very reasonable and Mount Vernon made sure to offer plenty of fun activities, as well as tons of candy to hand out to the visitors.

Upon arrival, each guest received a bag, a map, and a set of tickets. We were then free to walk around the estate and hand in the corresponding ticket to each station. We received a generous amount of MARS candy (my favorite.) At each station, the employees and volunteers were dressed in full colonial costume. We saw a piccolo player, ladies making fish nets, and a spinning wheel! My kids loved finding the matching tickets that corresponded with each station! It was a fun scavenger hunt. The employees were very friendly and engaging. Each employee that we encountered told us about the job they were doing, providing for a cool learning experience. There was also a hay bale climbing area, hayrides, a fall craft, and chocolate making…so much to do! Besides the trick-or-treat fun, we were also free to explore the grounds. This place is so incredibly beautiful in the fall. You can walk along the water, see the pretty fall foliage, and get some exercise. The estate is huge! The mansion itself is not open for tours during this event, but there was still plenty to see and do.

This is such a great family friendly event. All five of us had a good time. This is something that really is great for all ages. I would definitely like to come back for this event next year!
