File Requirements:
“We” accept Adobe PDF files created using the unmodified PDFX1a2001 Industry Standardsetting, available within nearly all Adobe application and current versions ofQuark Xpress. If you are uncertain about your settings, please contactour prepress support staff for further guidance.
Font embedment:
All fonts must be embedded for proper output.
Color space:
All color must be composed of either CMYK and/or Grayscale. Other colorspaces will require color conversation to the proper color space which canintroduce unwanted color shifts and other potential situations on press. Spot color publications should use “Magenta” to signify colored elements.
Page size:
Pages should be designed to match the trim size provided by Bartash at 100%.
Image resolution:
All image should be save as high resolution 200-300 DPI at 100%. Bitmap/monotone images (black and white only with no levels of gray, at 1200DPI). Lower resolution images may reproduce unexpectedly with lowerquality (low resolution images are morenoticeable when using stochastic screening).
Image/live area:
Image/live area is defined as all live printable material including headers, footers, date lines, page numbers, advertising, shapes, editorial content, ect. Compact publications should contain .375” margins while Tabloidsized publications should contain .5” margins on all sides to create the livearea of a particular file. Image area must be honored within a bleedlayout.
Bleed elements:
Elements intended to bleed must extend at least .25” beyond the page size(described above) while maintaining the image area.
Color builds:
Simple color yields the brightest and most vibrant tones, complex color buildscan present registration difficulties and unexpected color reproduction. See Bartash printed color chart for sample colors (click here to request a chart).
White text:
White text on a 2 or more color background should be set at 12 pt. or greater.
Colored text:
Text colors with 2 or more colors should be set at 12 pt. or greater.
Trapping:
In-RIP trapping negates the need for custom document trapping. Layoutapplication preferences should be set to “Knock-out All” whenever possible.
Ink Density:
Total ink density (sum of all 4 colors in a particular area) should not exceed240% to avoid unwanted offset or tracking off press.
Rich Black/Process Black:
Black must be composed of pure black (K) or a percentage of black (K) vs. acombination of varying percentages of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. Rich Black presents registration challenges on press and potentially unexpectedreproduction.
