Stuffed Animal Hammock

(Heather M. Ross)

Kids always get more stuffed animals—and never more space to keep them. Here’s how to create a quick and easy storage solution for your child’s plushie zoo.

You’ll Need

  • 1 corner
  • 1 decorative fishing net (At least 3 feet by 3 feet)
  • 1 string of battery-powered lights with timer
  • 4 removable adhesive hooks rated for at least 2 pounds
  • 1 tape measure
  • 1 pencil

Step 1: Place Hooks
Find a corner of the room near an electrical outlet. Place a light pencil mark 1.5 feet down from the ceiling. Make two more marks 2 inches over on both walls. Place level adhesive hooks on these two new marks.

Next, measure 2.5 feet out from those hooks on each wall and make two additional marks level with the first two. Attach adhesive hooks over these marks. You should now have four adhesive hooks at the same level around the corner.

Step 2: Hang the Net
Hang the fishing net on the hooks. Make sure the net is tight against the two hooks closest to the corner but allow it to relax and hang between the back and forward hooks. It should hang like a hammock.

Optional: Trim net to size if there’s too much excess material for your liking.

Step 3: (Optional) Thread Lights
Threading string lights through the netting is optional and can make this project glow, but parents should be careful about which lights they use and how. We opted to use battery-powered fairy lights on a timer to make sure the lights wouldn’t stay on too long or get too hot. Always follow the specific fire safety guidance that comes with any light product.

Step 4: Arrange Stuffed Animals
Now that the stuffed animals have somewhere to be, you can arrange them on the net.

Place the biggest ones in the back so your child can still see them, and arrange the smaller ones in the front.

Tip: Make sure your child knows to get the help of an adult if they want to retrieve one of their stuffed animals.
