Pirate Adventures on the Chesapeake

My family and I recently had the pleasure of experiencing Pirate Adventures on the Chesapeake. We had done a similar experience in Hilton Head, SC, last summer so my older boys had high expectations. At the ripe old ages of 3 and 4, they vividly remembered every turn the captain took them on last year…finding the treasure map, drinking the grog, “booming” Pirate Pete with the water cannons, and pulling up the treasure from the bottom of the ocean. This trip did not disappoint, and they walked away two happy (exhausted) boys!

The adventure started a half hour prior to leaving the dock. Emily and Michael, a husband and wife duo, had the afternoon perfectly organized. Prior to departure, our boys were given the chance to dress up like pirates and even had real pirate tattoos painted on their arms. Their staff could draw almost anything for the children. Jack decided on a bright blue whale and Charlie got his favorite – Batman! The staff was friendly and kept the children engaged.

Now for the real experience. Shipmate Rusty gathered the children to go over key pirate phrases like ahoy, aye, booty, shiver me timbers and walk the plank. Next, Emily, our captain, had us boarding the boat right on schedule. As the children boarded the boat they were instructed to pick seats at the front.

Cruising through Annapolis, we made frequent stops role playing a real pirate adventure. We first found the pirate map, but then realized that Pirate Pete had stolen the keys to the treasure, so we detoured to find him. Once the children spotted the enemy, they were given the chance to use the amazing water cannons to knock him off his boat (every child’s dream!).

We were then on the hunt for the treasure. Rusty helped the children heave and ho the booty from the bottom of the ocean, and the children were given goody bags to take treasure home with them.

All in all, the parents were able to enjoy the beautiful scenery on this trip and the children were well entertained with this magical adventure. We would definitely revisit this action-packed family event!
