New To The Neighborhood: Science Lab Opens in Fairfax

You may have heard “rumors” about a children’s museum coming to our area – if so, consider yourself in the loop! The Children’s Science Center (CSC) will open its first location, known as the Children’s Science Center Lab, at Fair Oaks Mall this month. The lab provides fun, interactive exhibits, activities and programs for children and families to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) hands-on. Focused on children aged 2-12, the lab offers four experience zones: The Experiment Bar, Inspiration Hub, Tinker Shop and Discovery Zone.

In addition, the Children’s Science Center Lab offers summer camps, birthday parties, field trips and other group visits. Campers in their Adventures in STEM summer camp will get excited about STEM through fun activities, hands-on labs, engineering challenges, digital investigations, and more. There are limited spots still available for camp.

Nene Spivy, CSC executive director, is thrilled that after five years of being a mobile, museum without walls with only weekend and evening programs, “We now have a museum facility that makes hands-on learning available any day of the year.”  CSC will operate seven days a week at its Fair Oaks Mall site, in addition to continued operation of its mobile community outreach programs.
