Q&A with Jaclyn Perovich

Occupation:

Au Pair Consultant

Three fun facts about you and your family:

1. We have chickens living in our basement.

2. I recently started an Instagram, Facebook and YouTube channel called “Mom and Travel” dedicated to encouraging families to explore with their children. It also includes travel tips and product reviews. My son Anthony also has a YouTube channel called “Anthony Tries.” It’s cute because he tries food from other countries and new activities.

3. We have a large international family thanks to my many years working with au pairs and the relationships we formed with them.

What advice would you give to new or expectant moms?

Make time for yourself. Self-care is extremely important to your mental and physical well being, especially when you are a new mom. It’s OK to be selfish and take time for yourself. It will make you feel better as a person and a mom.

What goals do you have for your family?

I just want us to be happy in whatever it is we are doing. For my children, I would like them to learn languages, explore the world, be good people and help others.

How has motherhood changed your outlook on life?

I have learned to think like Elsa from Frozen and “let it go.” If something or someone is not benefiting my life or my kids’ lives in a positive way, then I remove it. I don’t need the stress or negativity.

What’s the best thing you are watching right now?

I love Mike Rowe’s “Returning the Favor.” It’s about acknowledging the people who are trying to make a difference in their community.

How do you unwind and disconnect?

I recently started kickboxing with Jenny Mercer at Burr Fitness and Strength in Purcellville. It has been amazing for my physical and mental health.

How has motherhood helped you succeed at work?

I think motherhood allows me to relate to my clients. They want the best childcare for their children and I try my best to find someone I would feel comfortable with caring for my own children.
