My 8 year old son is a big fan of Kidz Bop CDs so I was already familiar with the general format and content of the CD. For those of you who are not familiar with their series, Kidz Bop has kids singing today’s popular hits with a kid audience in mind.
Their 2012 Christmas CD features 15 classic holiday songs including “Santa Clause is Coming to Town” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” As an adult, I would probably rather just listen to the original versions on some of the songs. That said my son enjoys the kid versions and I did not mind listening to the kid version over and over again. I even caught myself singing along with some of the songs. Delightfully, there were at least two songs on the CD that were not as popular as the others so I was not listening to it for the 1,000th time.
One criticism I do have is that even though the songs are sung by kids, you could not always tell that was the case. The kid artists who sing this year’s songs sound older than those who sang the songs on prior CDs. During the chorus on the current CD you could truly hear that kids were singing the song. You also see some of the same songs repeated on this year’s CD as you did on prior CDs – 7 tracks to be specific. However, this year’s version had more of a rocking beat to them, so there are slight differences between the years’ versions of the songs.
And like all other Christmas music you certainly get into the holiday mood. There were two songs on the album that I personally was not very familiar with so I found that enjoyable. You can only listen to Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer sung so many times.
This Christmas CD is a good gift for kids 5-10 years old and who are fans of the entire Kidz Bop series.
