Bikers from across the country are gearing up for one of the country’s most unique cycling events—one that takes place entirely underground.
The National Landing’s Garage Racing National Championships will take place on February 21 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. It’s the only bike race that sends bikers through underground parking garages, which has made it a particularly notable event. Bikers as young as 10 years old will race to see who can complete the subterranean course the fastest, with competitive and non-competitive races divided by gender and bike relay races among the event’s offerings.
The event is a collaboration between National Landing BID and biking-focused media outlet CXHAIRS.
“This event is about more than just racing. It’s about creating something unexpected that welcomes everyone,” said Rob Mandle, Deputy Executive Director of the National Landing BID. “Garage Racing reflects the energy and innovation happening across National Landing, where new ideas are celebrated, put into motion and shared amongst the community.”
The bikers who participate in the Garage Racing National Championships are just as unconventional as the race itself, with cyclists often participating in crazy costumes and riding unique vehicles. The championships’ “Anything Goes Finale” is as fun for riders as it is for spectators, who can watch as cyclists in dinosaur costumes face off against bikers riding children’s tricycles.
In addition to watching the races, spectators can attend the event for free and enjoy food from local vendors such as Acme Pies and Good Company Doughnuts & Cafe, as well as drinks at the Finish Line Bar from Port City Brewing Company and Best Day Brewing.
