KNEAD Hospitality + Design, a Washington D.C. -based restaurant group involved in the concept and design of a range of elevated casual and fast casual eateries (with an estimated count of 20+ by 2024) recently implemented a benefit program that would reimburse its employees for child care costs.

Founders Jason Berry and Michael Reginbogin launched a benefit package for employees in 2022 that covered lifestyle enhancements, such as shopping, dinner and entertainment, but after becoming parents, they knew a key component was missing.
“When we had our second child in February of 2024 and realized how
difficult it was to find accessible [child care], especially for restaurant workers with off hours, we knew we had to do something,” Berry says. “In addition to high costs, day cares are only open during the work day, and typically restaurant workers need care during the evening hours, making things even more challenging.”

Through KNEAD’s new program, which became an option for salaried employees in the spring, employees are reimbursed for child care expenses up to $1,800 per quarter based on tenure. All ages of children are covered.
