CloSYS Oral Health Products

As I get older, I realize more and more the importance of maintaining a healthy mouth. I always have been vigilant about brushing and flossing, and have finally listened to my dentist about the benefits of using proper mouthwash in my oral health routine. After a bad experience with one mouthwash that left me with awful staining, I was eager to try out the CloSYS line of products.

CloSYS Oral Health products were invented to “help kill germs in your mouth, preventing them from spreading to other parts of the body while making your mouth cleaner and healthier.” All of their products are alcohol free, sulfate free and Triclosan free.

I knew to look for alcohol-free mouthwash since I can’t stand the burning feeling, but I didn’t know about the potential harm of sulfates and Triclosan. Sulfates, which are added as a foaming agent in toothpaste, have been linked to gum and skin irritation, making it harder to keep the mouth and gums free of inflammation. Triclosan is an antimicrobial agent used in toothpastes to kill bacteria. However, it has been initially linked to disruption of the body’s endocrine system and development of antibiotic resistance in bacteria.

The CloSYS products use Chlorastan, stabilized chlorine dioxide, as the active ingredient to eliminate bacteria in the mouth and plaque on teeth. Clinical studies have shown Chlorastan is safe and effective for use in oral health without the negative aspects of the other chemicals.

I was provided with samples of CloSYS Sulfate Free Fluoride Toothpaste and two bottles of Alcohol Free Oral Health Rinse (one unflavored and one “JustRight Mint” flavored). The toothpaste has a slightly different texture than my normal toothpaste, and also does not taste strongly of mint. However, it left my mouth feeling just as clean and protected by the fluoride.

The mouthwash was the most intriguing to me, especially the unflavored version. I was excited for the alcohol-free aspect, but skeptical of the ability for the rinse to leave my mouth feeling clean without the typical minty flavor.

Surprisingly, I didn’t mind the unflavored version. It seemed almost like rinsing with pure water, yet left my mouth feeling clean and my breath quite fresh. It came with a peppermint flavoring oil, so I tried a bit of that in my next rinse. It gave the rinse more of the traditional feel but was still not overpowering. The JustRight Mint flavor also produced the same results: fresh breath with a hint of minty flavor. The biggest positive I found was the absence of burning and irritation I’ve felt with other mouthwashes. I have been using the mouthwash for several weeks and have not seen any signs of staining, which was also very important to me.

I am glad I was introduced to CloSYS, as I never had thought much about the ingredients in my oral-care products. If chemicals are unnecessarily added to consumable products, or can be substituted with better options for overall health, it seems like an obvious route to take. The CloSYS products seem to be a great fit for those with sensitive teeth, gums or taste buds, and are an excellent choice for keeping a healthy mouth without unpleasant side effects or overly minty flavors.
