Buzzfeed’s Tasty Junior Cookbook

Buzzfeed Tasty has become known for it’s aerial-view cooking videos of sometimes simple or sometimes indulgent recipes. Tasty Junior does this in the same fashion, but in a kid-friendly way.

When I was asked to review the Tasty Junior Cookbook, I was more than thrilled to do so. I was sent the link to go on their site to customize my cookbook for my son.

Unlike traditional cookbooks, the Tasty Junior Cookbook can be customized. Parents select the recipes included and are able add their child’s name to the title of the book.

I picked several recipes that I thought would not only be yummy but also quick and easy. There are 14 recipes to choose from and you have the option of choosing 10 for your cookbook. I leaned more towards the recipes I thought my picky toddler would like.

After looking at the options several times, I decided on the Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo Stuffed Shells, Easy Pizza, Baked Parmesan Chicken Strips, Cheesy Biscuit and Egg Cups, BBQ Chicken Pasta Bake, Hot Dog Cups, Frozen Yogurt Granola, No-Bake Peanut Butter Pie Jars, Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins and Strawberry Banana Frozen Yogurt.

I received my book less than a week later and decided it was time to get cooking!

First on our menu was the Chicken and Broccoli Stuffed Shells. The ingredient list was easy and short—a definite plus in my book. The directions are simple, easy to follow and designed for parents and kids to be able to cook together. After the pasta was done baking, my toddler and I waited patiently for the food to cool off so we could eat.

The recipe is a definite keeper. My picky toddler gobbled this down and even asked for more! This recipe makes a lot, so I even had leftovers for the next night and even sent some over for my nephew who loved it too.

Because the first recipe was so easy, I couldn’t wait to try a few more. I chose to make the Hotdog Cups. My son enjoys hotdogs, biscuits and ketchup separately, so I assumed he’d love all three combined, right?

Again, this recipe was very easy. All it required were hotdogs, ketchup, mustard and biscuit dough—ingredients I had on hand. This recipe took about 30 minutes as well from start to finish. I was so excited to see how my son would do with this meal but he wanted nothing to do with the biscuit, and instead, picked out all of the hotdogs. Despite my son’s experience, I really enjoyed these. They reminded me of pigs in a blanket, but a lot yummier.

I loved how simple this recipe was and it is something I will be making again. This could also easily be done with mini biscuits for an afternoon snack and it will be sure to hold the hungry kids over until dinner.

We love sweets in our house, so I knew I wanted to try a dessert recipe. I went with the Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins because who doesn’t like banana and chocolate together? I’m a baker, so any reason I have to use my Kitchen Aid stand mixer, I will take it.

I measured out the ingredients and quickly realized that this recipe called for no sugar, flour or baking powder or soda. This recipe took just under 30 minutes from start to finish and they smelled lovely while baking, so I was really excited to give these a try.

After they cooled, I shared one with my son, but unfortunately, it wasn’t a hit. This recipe will certainly not be passed down or even made again unless I tweak it.

Besides the one failed recipe, I would highly recommend this book; especially for parents with older kids who are able to help out more. The recipes the company offers are easy, quick and simple and I think any busy parent can appreciate that.

The recipes definitely won’t break the bank because you are likely to have most of the ingredients on hand. Another great feature I like about this book is that it’s customizable, so I will definitely hold on to this book for years to come and eventually pass it down to my son for his children one day.

I have already recommended this book to so many and have even shared a recipe or two from the book. Parents, if you’re looking to have a delicious meal on the table in less than an hour, I would recommend you check out this cookbook at tastyjr.com.
