6 Fitness + Health Apps

1. MyFitness Pal

MyFitnessPal is your go-to mobile food journal. It gives you a wealth of tools for tracking what and how much you eat, and it integrates with other step/fitness tracking apps to see how many calories you burn through activity. One of the highlights of the app is it estimates how many weeks it will take you to attain your weight-loss goal after each daily journal entry. MyFitness Pal has accumulated one of the largest food and drink databases, and it gives you a nutritional break down of each food entry.

2. Spring

Does music fuel your motivation? Then Spring app is what you need. It’s a rhythm-based music service for your exercises. Whether you’re running, walking, biking or spinning, Spring mixes up a blend of beats to get you to work out faster, stronger and longer. All you have to do is run to the beat of the music. Your workout will be done before you know it, and you might even discover some new favorite songs!

3. Pact

If you need a little extra push to get you working out and you value money as incentive, Pact might be the right fitness app for you. Users pledge a set number of days they plan to workout that week along with an amount of money they must put up. Users must pay for each day they miss, but they get paid every time they complete a workout! You can also connect Pact with other tracking devices on your phone. A nutritional option is now available, too, so you can get the best of both fitness and food tracking.

4. Noom Coach

When you want to stay organized and on top of your eating habits, a food diary is a must. It’s time consuming to track measurements on your own, so that’s where Noom Coach comes in. The app has an extensive food database that knows exactly how many calories are in some of your most complex meals. After tracking your food intake, Noom suggests simple changes for a healthier lifestyle. In addition, it invites you to join Noom groups that are made up of people on similar weight-loss journeys, so you can share and stay motivated.

5. 7 Minute Workout

If you don’t have much time to dedicate to long workouts, 7 Minute Workout is for you. It’s one of the top fitness apps on the market and includes 12 high-intensity bodyweight exercises — 30 seconds per exercise, with 10 seconds rest between exercises. It integrates with iOS 8’s HealthKit, and is voice prompted, so you can complete the entire workout without looking at a timer or device! It includes video and text descriptions of each exercise, and you can perform the workout with countdown timers.

6. Kurbo

There’s finally a new fitness/weight management app designed just for kids — complete with personalized coaching. Kurbo is unlike adult fitness apps, which focus solely on food tracking and calorie counting. Instead, it offers games, in-app chats and video sessions with a personalized coach and an easy “traffic light system” that breaks down food categories into three easily identifiable colors. The app was designed using 30 years of childhood obesity research from Stanford University.
