Summer is the season for swimming pools! Easy entertainment for long, hot summer days, a pool day can be an opportunity both for kids to splash and have fun and for parents to get a much-needed break by the poolside. These are especially great places to hang out during the current heatwave.
Here’s the schedule for five major aquatic centers and swimming pools in Montgomery County and Washington, D.C.

Longbranch Outdoor Pool | 8700 Piney Branch Road, Silver Spring, MD 20901
Longbranch Outdoor Pool follows a pre-season, summer season and post-season schedule, with its pre-season in effect through June 13. The pool also offers three-hour holiday sessions on June 19, July 4 and Sept. 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6. p.m.
Full Season (June 14 – Aug. 15)
1 – 8 p.m. Monday through Friday
Noon – 8 p.m. Sunday
Post-Season (Aug. 16 – Sept. 1)
1 – 7 p.m. Monday through Friday
Noon – 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
Good Hope Neighborhood Recreation Center | 14715 Good Hope Road, Silver Spring, MD 20905
Located in the 9-square-mile Cloverly area of Silver Spring that is home to approximately
15,000 people, The Good Hope Recreation Center has multiple sources of recreation ranging from innovative art activities to lighted tennis courts and an outdoor spray ground operated during the summer months. The spray ground is open from June 15 to Aug. 24.

Francis Pool | 2435 N St NW, Washington, DC 20037
In fairytales, we often come across idealistic pictures of swimming pools nestled under the
trees. Francis Pool—located in the heart of the West End—pushes this image into reality with its setting among lush trees. The pool is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday now through June 23. Beginning June 24, the pool will be open Wednesday through Monday during those hours, though it is closed on Tuesdays. Harry Thomas Sr. Pool | 1743 Lincoln Road NE, Washington, DC 20002
Do you envision jumping into an outdoor pool for a refreshing swim after a satisfying—yet
sweaty—game of tennis or basketball? If the answer is yes, Harry Thomas Sr. Recreation
Center—which is home to the Harry Thomas Sr. Pool—has the best of both activities. The pool is open noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. Closing date TBD—contact the pool for updates.
