Get Your Groove On

Has your family fallen victim to online learning fatigue? Kick off the weekend with a virtual dance party hosted by Montgomery County Public Libraries. The Zoom session will be locked ten minutes after the start of the program, so be sure to log in on time! Friday, Sept. 11, 5-5:30 p.m. Free.

Catch Some Fireworks

Did COVID-19 put a damper on your Fourth of July this year? Worry not! Head out to Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium to get your fireworks fix. The drive-up show will feature a pre-show radio program and a custom soundtrack to enjoy from the safety of your vehicle. Saturday, Sept. 12 at dusk. Free.

Meet Some Monarchs

Cure your end-of-summer blues with one last glimpse of the monarch butterfly. Stop by Black Hill Nature Programs and Visitors Center to learn about the beautiful bug’s life cycle and help park naturalists send them on their fall migration. Before you leave, pick up a craft kit so the fun can continue at home. Saturday, Sept. 12, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monarch Meet & Greet, Free; Take & Make It, $2. Registration required for both events.

Park Up in Polynesia

The closing of movie theaters around the country has led to the resurgence of an old family favorite—the drive-in movie. This weekend, head out to RFK Stadium Lot 5 for an in-car screening of Disney’s Moana. What can we say except “you’re welcome!” Saturday, Sept. 12, 7-9 p.m. $29-$39 per car. Registration required.

Be a Virtual Tourist

Cultural Tourism DC is offering virtual tours featuring a number of local landmarks, from the Kennedy Homes to the new Black Lives Matter Plaza, all weekend long. If you’re missing the beauty of our nation’s capital but are trying to avoid travel, this virtual walking tour is for you. Times vary by day. Free. Registration required.

Run Like a Superhero

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s the Superhero 5k! If you and your family could use a breath of fresh air, put on your capes and make the trek out to Occoquan Regional Park. There will be three main heats as well as a run-at-your-own-pace option, so you can rest assured you’ll all be able to maintain social distancing. Plus, pets are welcome! Sunday, Sept. 13. Start times vary by heat. $20 per participant.
