1. Night of the Living Zoo

Scare Level: 2

October 30, 6:30 -10 p.m.

Smithsonian National Zoo

Adults only

Prepare to witness death defying acts and amazing oddities at the Zoo’s annual adults-only Halloween event, Night of the Living Zoo. With live music from popular band Black Masala and DJ Squirrel, craft beer, food trucks, a costume contest, and performance artists, it’s a wicked night of fun.

2. Silver Spring Zombie Walk

Scare Level: 3

October 24

Gathering time: 8 p.m., Walk Start: 9 p.m.

The Silver Spring Zombie Walk is an annual Halloween party held in various locations around Silver Spring, MD. Come dressed up in your ultimate zombie costume and get ready to embrace the zombie life for a night! The walk includes live music and performances, as well as a screening of “Day of the Dead” at the AFI Silver Theatre post-walk.

3. Halloween Haunt at Kings Dominion

Enjoy scary entertainment, including mazes, scare zones, thrill rides, monsters and more. Family-favorite activities include hay mazes, pumpkin painting and live entertainment.

4. Air and Scare

Scare Level: 1

October 24, 2-7 p.m.

Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, Chantilly, VA

The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum is putting on a Halloween event the whole family will love! Arrive in costume for indoor trick-or-treating, spooky science experiments and other Halloween-themed activities. Take photos with your favorite Star Wars or Ghostbusters characters.

5. Valley of the Haunted

Scare Level: 3

Oct. 16-18, 23-25, 30-31, 6:30 p.m.

Visit Valley of the Haunted’s website for the story behind the trail. Do you dare enter the Valley of the Haunted to experience Topher’s trail of death on his nights of reclamation?

6. Trick or Treat at Tudor Place

Scare Level:1

October 31, 10 a.m.

1644 31st St. NW, Washington, DC

Halloween is “spooktacular” at Tudor Place! Wear your costumes (optional), and wander the estate’s many meandering paths to find treats (not tricks!) in every corner of the enchanting North Garden. Paint pumpkins and enjoy other crafts, face painting, and active period games amid lovely autumn color. For children of all ages and their families.

7. Del Ray Halloween Parade

Scare Level: 1

October 25, 2 p.m.

Mt. Vernon Ave. and Commonwealth – Alexandria, VA

Special dignitaries and elected officials, children and pets parade in their Halloween costumes in this annual event. Awards are given for best costume and more!

8. Field of Screams – MD and D.C.

Prepare to get your scare-on at Field of Screams Maryland with 40+ acres of thrills and fun. Enjoy a 30-minute walk through the Trail of Terror, check out the Lusion Manor haunted house, and shoot zombies at the Zombie Paintball Apocalypse.

9. Clifton Haunted Trail

Scare Level: 3

Oct. 24, 7-10 p.m.

This Clifton trail includes terrifying sights and freaky movie re-enactments. The haunted train winds through 8 acres and is full of scary surprises.

10. The Maize at Temple Hall Farm Regional Park

Scare Level: 1

Halloween-time is perfect for enjoying some corn-maze fun! The Maize at Temple Hall Farm Regional Park is a perfect way to celebrate Halloween for the whole family with barnyard games, hayrides, hay jumps and much more.

11. Halloween Mini Camp

Workhouse Arts Center, 9601 Ox Rd., Lorton, VA

Make the Workhouse your destination for Halloween fun! Campers will learn the trick to creating tasty Halloween treats with our Resident Chef, then head on over to Classroom 305 to use techniques in drawing, painting, and mixed media to bring their spooky Halloween creations to life!

12. Trick-or-Treating at Mount Vernon

Scare Level: 1

Oct. 30, 3:30-6:30 p.m.

Come and participate in a special scavenger hunt, take a wagon ride, create Halloween crafts, see historic demonstrations and enjoy a costume parade!

13. Creepy Nights on Calamo

Scare Level: 3

Nightly during October

Calamo Street in Springfield, VA

The annual Halloween spectacle features a terrifying haunted house, which includes animatronics, special effects and live actors. The attraction also features a free family-friendly Halloween Music & Light show that runs every night in October.
