Marsha Lindquist...

Marsha Lindquist knows the value of hard work and perseverance. In spite of graduating with a bachelor's degree in marketing and accounting, Marsha found entering the work force as a woman in a recession to be difficult. She worked her way from the ground up; starting out as an entry-level secretary and eventually fulfilling her dream of becoming a "Boss Lady". She now runs a successful business as a public speaker and a business success advisor.

Being a woman, Marsha found upward mobility to be a challenge. Having two specialties and a willingness to work harder than anyone else yielded her the "reward" of more responsibilities, but not necessarily the recognition she deserved. Fortunately with her positive attitude, boundless energy and the help of some wonderful mentors, including her husband of 11 years, she was able to reach her full potential. Now, as CEO of The Management Link Incorporated and the author of a recent book, "Why are You Still Working Your Ass Off?", she has found great personal and professional satisfaction.

It is working in the small business arena that Marsha finds particularly exciting. She loves the fun and excitement of working with these companies, and is passionate about their successes. When a company she is working with employs one of her strategies and is rewarded with a big fat contract, she shouts for joy. She helps them develop strategies for their businesses that are versatile and complete. She loves to positively effect everything from employee morale and management common sense to financial solvency. Her passion is to make all those around her as successful as possible, and has found the Washington DC area to be an especially receptive arena for women entrepreneurs. The sky's the limit!

Balancing work and family is Marsha's greatest challenge. The excitement of the work force can eclipse the very real need for personal fulfillment, friends and caring for family. Carving out time for those things is very important, and is something she makes a conscious effort to do regularly. She has made her family and friends her first priority and has a standing "date night" and one lunch hour during the week that she spends exclusively with her husband. Weekends are reserved for family and friends, and she rarely works during that time unless there is some exceptional deadline.

Marsha shares this advice; "Do what makes your heart sing and you will find joy in every day. It's hard to find that out if you allow the noises of the day to get in the way. Take time out every day for you." HOW DO YOU BLEND CAREER &
FAMILY:

My family is my first priority – I set aside
one night a week for “date night” and one
lunch hour during the week for time with
my husband. This valuable time is an unmovable appointment that we both look forward to. My career rounds out who I am. While my work is very enjoyable, I have learned to end the day at a reasonable hour unless I have an exceptional deadline. But those are exceptions. I rarely work weekends and keep that time for my family and friends.

FAVORITE PARENTING TIP:
Talk to your kids in simple words. Remember what it felt like to be a kid; it wasn’t that long ago. Regard them like you wanted to be and ask them what they need.

FAVORITE BOOK:
“Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill

CURRENT BOOK:
“Seabiscuit” by Laura Hillenbrand

FAVORITE RESTAURANT:
Cooking is a serious off work passion so
Ristorante “Lindquist” serves the best food and has the best ambience. For going out Al Tiramisu & Ristorante Terrazza can’t be beat.

FAVORITE FUN ACTIVITY:
Hiking & kayaking with my German
Shepherd Dog Katja
