Lynda Mann...
With
over 30 years of hands-on experience in organizational
development, diversity and leadership consulting services,
it's easy to see where Lynda Mann developed her vision for
her very successful consulting company, Silver Eagle
Consulting, Inc. Lynda's 26 years of service in the U.S.
Army laid the path for her interest in management training,
organizational development activities and executive
coaching. Lynda's love for working with people was the
driving force that led her to start her own consulting
company. "It's very exciting to see individuals and
organizations seek excellence and perform optimally and know
I had some small part in the process."
Lynda started out working as a temp, then
hired on with Wilson Certified Foods as a secretary. A move
to Las Vegas brought a new career focus in civil service,
which eventually led her to serve in the U.S. Army. She
started out as a Private and initially taught combat
intelligence and guerilla warfare at the Intelligence Center
and School. From there she went to Officer Candidate School,
after which she was assigned as the Executive Officer in an
all-woman company within a hospital. Lynda eventually left
active duty to work on her doctorate at the University of
Texas and joined the Texas National Guard. It was at this
time she began a consulting practice. Five years later
the National Guard called Lynda to active duty. She spent 3
years building strategic plans at the state level and
managing the Guard's leadership development program. From
there she was assigned to the Pentagon as the Chief, NGB's
Quality Advisor. When the Chief retired Lynda moved to a
senior acquisition position and during that assignment she
was promoted to Colonel and eventually retired.
Being a very successful business owner, wife
and mother of two stepsons means that Lynda is constantly
balancing her career and family. "To balance, I
identify priorities in both domains and strive to make sure
I live up to my commitments in both." She feels open
communication and dedication are essential for success.
Lynda has found that overall, women in the
Washington D.C. area can expect an open and accepting
atmosphere in the professional world. Occasionally she
encounters those who are blind to the great things women
bring to the business environment. Lynda feels it is
extremely important for women to address these situations
when they happen. She suggests two methods of dealing with
this problem; be tactful, or use the great Debra Winger line
from Shadowlands, "Are you trying to offend me, or are
you just stupid?"

HOW DO YOU BLEND CAREER &
FAMILY:
Very carefully! I love my husband and my family,
and I also love mixing it up in the business
world. I make sure I communicate clearly about
what's happening and reinforce my love for my
family and dedication to my life's work,
depending on the situation. |
FAVORITE PARENTING TIP:
Because my stepsons were grown when Bill and I
married, it's important for me to remember I
will never be a traditional step mom. The most
important thing I can do is love their father
and love and support them always, especially
their relationship with him.
