  Whale Camp

Whale Camp Logo

In recognition of the value of Whale Camp programs at the Fundy Marine Science Institute, the College of the Atlantic is offering scholarships of $40,000 over four years to any Whale Camp alumni recommended by its Director. The College of the Atlantic is a renowned Liberal Arts college located on Mount Desert Island, Maine, home to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park on the coast of the Gulf of Maine. COA is an innovative institution, whose primary focus is the relationships between humans and the environment and is part of the Eco-League of colleges. Whale Camp programs prepare students with a solid background in the marine sciences and a deeper understanding of Human Ecology. Of all marine science programs, Whale Campers have far more face-to-face encounters to closely observe and study whales, dolphins, porpoises, seals and puffins in their own natural habitat.  Aboard their 65-foot sailboat campers collect data to document whale distribution, feeding and behavioral patterns. Hands-on experience using onboard marine biology equipment helps unveil the powerful and endangered processes of life in the sea. Campers explore beaches, coastal trails, and fishing villages and investigate life in the tidal pools and bogs. Whale Camp takes students out to sea three days each week to directly encounter the whales and other marine life for an amazing marine science experience. Whale Camp is a place where inspiration, exploration and discovery abound.

"British Swim School has been teaching water safety and swimming lessons to children of all ages for over 30 years.  Our methods focus first on teaching children basic skills such as entering the water safely, and becoming comfortable with floating in the water by themselves.  Through our gradual, fun process, children then progress to learn how to propel themselves through the water, learning freestyle and backstroke first, followed by breaststroke and then butterfly.  Once children learn the skills of the class level they are in, they can advance to the next level immediately.

We currently offer classes at three indoor pool locations in Montgomery County ˆ Germantown, Gaithersburg, and Rockville.  Our classes are year-round and on-going, so you can join at any time. Earth Treks Summer Climbing Camps

Earth Treks logo

Earth Treks has long recognized the incredible value a climbing experience can have for a child. Through indoor climbing programs  at Earth Treks' Climbing Centers and local and international outdoor courses, Earth Treks teaches over 20,000 people to climb each year. Through the programs we teach, we have witnessed time and again the incredible personal achievements young people are able to make through climbing. Climbing  has a unique way of drawing out a child's "personal best", while at the same time asking that they put their trust in their peers. We hope that you will give your child the opportunity to broaden his or her horizons (as well as make some great new friends) by joining us this summer for one of Earth Treks' many Summer Climbing Camps.
