Best Doctors, Washington,
DC Region
In an area as large as the DC Metropolitan Region,
how do you find a doctor who is right for your
family? How do you verify credentials of a
specialist? Wouldn’t it be helpful to know whom
other doctors trust with their own family’s medical
care?
To help you answer these questions, FAMILY Magazine
has acquired the rights from Best Doctors, Inc., a
national database of physicians, to publish its list
of the 2006 “Best” DC area doctors. This list
features over 300 doctors in 11 different specialty
areas including: Allergy and Immunology, Eating
Disorders, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics,
Psychiatry.
Globally recognized for quality and integrity, Best
Doctors surveyed approximately 33,000 physicians
nationally and asked the following question, “ If
you or a loved one needed a doctor in your
specialty, and you could not treat them yourself, to
whom would you refer them?”
This question forms the basis of the “Doctors of
Excellence” network, in which physicians provide
anonymous and confidential ratings of their peers.
Designed to mimic the informal peer-to-peer referral
process that doctors use, Best Doctors collects over
a million peer evaluations, with up to 200
evaluations on a single doctor. The breadth and
depth of the survey pool virtually eliminates
possible survey bias. Participation in the Best
Doctors survey is voluntary. Doctors do not receive
compensation for their participation in the program.
